Buffalo Wild Wings to open in Ames

Lilly Pavlou, senior in mechanical engineering and Russian, and Terry Crooks, of Ames, set up sleeping bags Sunday for their stay outside of Buffalo Wild Wings. Pavlou and Crooks had been waiting since 8:30 p.m. and had known about the contest for awhile before suddenly deciding to participate.

Buffalo Wild Wings is opening its new Ames location Monday at 400 S. Duff Ave.

“There will be a ribbon cutting for chamber members only at 10 a.m.,” said Sarah Buss, director of Membership Development and Affiliate Programming at the Chamber of Commerce. “It will be opening to the public at 11 a.m.”

The plan to put a Buffalo Wild Wings in Ames has been ongoing.

“We’ve been looking at it for a couple of years,” said Bryant Arns, general manager of the Buffalo Wild Wings in Ames.”It’s been a couple of years in the works, but we finally found a spot that we like.”

“As an entire company we have over 750 restaurants,” Arns said.

The business hired 120 employees in preparation for the opening.

“Eighty percent of our employees are college students,” Arns said. “Majority being Iowa State students.”

“We have appetizers starting around $3 during happy hour and our combo platters are $12.99,” Arns said. “It’s the ultimate sports bar experience,” Arns said. “There is always sports on. There is always games to be played, whether it’s trivia or poker, on the televisions.”

Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant will open at 11 a.m. and close at 1 a.m. each day of the week.
