The ISU men’s golf team defeated Northern Iowa and No. 11 Iowa on their way to winning the Big Four Match on Saturday at Lone Tree Country Club in Phoenix, Ariz.

The Cyclones cruised through the first round not losing a single matchup against Northern Iowa. Then in the final against No. 11 Iowa, the match was cut short to 16 holes due to running out of daylight. After those 16 holes, the Cyclones were leading the rival Hawkeyes, 4-2.

For the Cyclones, golfers Nate McCoy, Michael Wuertz, Nathan Leary and Borja Virto defeated their Hawkeye opponent. Most notably, junior Nate McCoy defeated Iowa’s Vince India, who is the No. 8-ranked player in college golf.

“The fact that Nate was able to defeat a player of Vince India’s caliber shows that he is one of the elite players in college golf,” said ISU coach Andrew Tank.

The next meet for the Cyclones will be Feb. 14, in San Antonio, Texas at the Oak Hills Invitational.
