No. 22 Cyclones fall short in Athens Regional

No. 22 Iowa State closed out the season Friday afternoon, falling to No. 8 Georgia, No. 9 Kentucky and No. 19 Missouri in the Athens Regional. The all-around score for the Cyclones was the third-highest at a Regional in program history.

The Cyclones were able to stick five of six landings on the afternoon. Natalia Ros Vaquer closed the uneven bar rotation with the team’s high score of 9.875. Meghans Sievers posted a 9.850, which was the second highest in the rotation.

Freshman Grace Woolfolk earned a 9.850, the highest score in the rotation and the final beam routine for the Cyclones. Molly Russ was right behind Woolfolk with a stuck landing and a score of 9.800.

The Cyclones posted a team score of 49.175 on floor, with senior standout Meaghan Sievers closing her career with a 9.900. Laura Burns, Cassandra Diaz and Sophie Steinmeyer all scored 9.825.

Sydney Converse had a strong showing in the vault and tied her career-high at 9.850. As a team, the Cyclones scored a 49.025 on the vault.

Individually, senior Meaghan Sievers finished the Regional with a score of 39.050. Individuals advancing to the NCAA Gymnastics Championship in Fort Worth, Texas will compete Friday, April 19 and Saturday, April 20th, and individual competitors will be announced at the end of Saturday’s Regional Final.
