Black Market Pizza may close doors

Black Market Pizza, 2610 Northridge Parkway, may be forced to close its doors for good.

The shop, which opened in Ames in March 2009, had slow business all summer and has not seen improvement since students returned, said Jim Wilson, co-owner of the store.

“We had to close five days because of the flood and the drinking water situation,” Wilson said. “It was really hard to come back from that. Right now we will have to play it by ear, but we can’t guarantee anything right now.”

Wilson said the three owners plan to talk to the Federal Emergency Management Agency on Monday to investigate the possibility of getting a loan in order to keep business going.

Black Market Pizza will close its Ankeny location Sunday – the site where Travel Channel’s “Man v. Food” showcased the store’s variety of pizzas. The episode is slated to air Oct. 6.

“I just want to say how happy I’ve been serving pizza to the Ames and Ankeny communities,” owner Greg Harvey said in Black Market Pizza’s online blog. “Most people don’t get to live their dreams for a single day, and I got to live mine for 18 months. For that I thank all the great support and well wishes.”
