Hockaday likely out for season

OMAHA, Neb. — According to sources from the Iowa State Athletic Department, preliminary tests on junior outside hitter Rachel Hockaday confirm an ACL tear in her left knee.

Hockaday went up for an attack with Iowa State ahead 12-8 against Florida and came down awkwardly at the net. After being helped off the court by trainers, Hockaday spent the next several hours in the training room at the Qwest Center.

Hockaday did not travel to the hospital but will receive an MRI upon the team’s return to Ames. A preseason All-Big 12 honoree, Hockaday will be eligible for a medical redshirt which could allow the junior to play for two additional seasons.

Replacing Hockaday will be junior Carly Jenson, who had nine kills and hit .278 in the Cyclones loss Saturday. Jenson will be making her second career start for the Cyclones today when they take on the No. 14 Kentucky Wildcats at 2 p.m. in Omaha, Neb., at the Runza/AVCA Showcase.
