SWIMMING AND DIVING: Short-handed Cyclones split with Nebraska

After spending the weekend in Nebraska, the ISU women’s swimming and diving teams returned home with one victory and one loss.

Friday’s competition against the University of Nebraska-Omaha resulted in an 80–55 victory for the Cyclones.

Saturday, the women traveled into a hostile senior-day environment at Nebraska’s Devaney Center pool and fell just short of a victory after winning seven of the 16 events throughout day.

The Cyclones were without senior diving standout Tien Tran and key swimmer Lindsey Behrens due to illness.

The short-handed Cyclones received help from Nan Liu, who swam her first 200 butterfly for the Cyclones, recording a win and the third-fastest time in school history. Liu continued her contributions by swimming in the winning 200-yard medley relay with Abby Glaser, Frances Calzada and Jeli Nixt.

The junior Nixt came home first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.44 to earn the team nine points in the meet.

Chelsea Tomek and Danielle Harris finished one-two for the Cyclones in the 200 backstroke to help draw the Cyclones closer to the Huskers.

On the diving side, junior Abby Christensen provided a spark for the Cyclones as she earned second place in the 1-meter dive and a victory in the 3-meter dive with a career best score of 254.7, earning herself a qualifying spot at the NCAA Zone Diving Championships in March.

Two more personal bests were turned in by Jenn Botsch and Lauren Naeve.

The Cyclones return home this weekend to Beyer Pool for senior day against Big 12 foe Kansas. Competition begins at 6 p.m. Friday.
