The Bill Bergan Multi-Events came to a close on Friday, Jan. 29 with a total of thirteen competitors taking part in the first event of the weekend that will honor ISU’s former Cross Country and Track and Field coach Bill Bergan. Only two multi-events, the women’s pentathlon and men’s heptathlon, comprised the two-day competition.

In the women’s pentathlon, ISU sophomore Mallory Henderson threw a personal record 32-05.00 in the shot put, but failed to place above fifth in any of the remaining events as she finished in seventh place with a score of 1,776. Unfortunately for Henderson, she fouled out in the long jump and failed to finish the final event of the day, the 800 meters. Diana Pickler, competing for Asics, won the pentathlon with a final score of 4,442 points.

On the men’s side, ISU junior Jamal Currica competed unattached and finished fifth out of six competitors in the heptathlon with a final score of 4,922 points. Currica, who scored in all seven events, won the 60 meter hurdles in 7.07 seconds and tied for first in the high jump with a jump of 6-08 3/4. Missouri’s Nick Adcock beat out Minnesota’s R.J. McGinnis by five points to win the heptathlon with the winning score of 5,758 points.

The Bill Bergan Invitational will begins Saturday, Jan. 30 at 10:30 a.m at the Lied Recreation Athletic Center.
