HOCKEY: Cyclones take first game against Illini

Iowa State went into Friday’s game with an upset in mind and came away with just that. The Cyclones picked up the victory by only scoring one goal.

Mike Lebler’s goal in the beginning of the second period turned out to be the game winner for the Cyclones. Both teams had plenty of chances throughout the game, but could not capitalize. In the second period, Illinois had a couple of chances on the power play, but Iowa State goalie Eric Hudson denied all shots.

With the game winding down, Illinois pulled its goalie to get the man advantage on the offensive end. With the advantage, the Illini were able to get plenty of shots and the defense was able to hold them and end the game.

Hudson earned his fifth shutout of the season with the win. The Cyclone defense played another solid game in front of him as well.

Iowa State will faceoff again with Illinois tomorrow night at 7:30 in Champaign.
