For the fifth time this year, junior libero Ashley Mass has been selected as the Big 12’s Defensive Player of the Week. Mass now has more Big 12 weekly awards than any student-athlete at Iowa State. The award marks the 11th of her career, which surpasses the previous record held by former Cyclone men’s basketball player Marcus Fizer.

In Iowa State’s five-set victory over Baylor last week Mass posted a school-record 42 digs. The Muskego, Wis. native broke the record, put in place over 14 years ago, against the Bears at Hilton Coliseum on the same night Iowa State broke a team record for most digs in a game with 122. Last week Mass averaged 7.62 digs per set, and posted 19 digs in the Cyclone sweep over Colorado last Saturday in Boulder. With last week’s numbers, Mass rises to third all-time on the conference list for career digs.
