VOLLEYBALL: Henson, Manns receive Big 12 Player of the Week awards

Junior outside hitter Victoria Henson and senior setter Kaylee Manns were named this week’s Big 12 Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week. For Henson, this is her third award by the conference as Offensive Player of the Week, and it is Manns’ first Defensive Player of the Week award.
Henson compiled an average of 5.29 kills, three digs and 1.29 blocks per set as the Cyclones came out with two road victories over Oklahoma and Kansas. The Leavenworth, Kan., native finished with a .260 attacking percentage and a total 6.29 points per set.
Henson’s improvements as an all-around player continue to be displayed as she posted 24 kills, 14 digs, three solo blocks and three block assists in Iowa State’s four-set win over Oklahoma last Wednesday. In the Cyclone sweep over the Jayhawks on Saturday, the junior hitter pounded down 13 kills and compiled a .278 hitting percentage. Henson moved to seventh on the all-time career kills list at Iowa State.
As a setter, Manns averaged a Cyclone-high 4.57 digs per set and 11.43 assists. The 5-foot-10-inch senior made herself known at the net with 1.14 blocks as well. Against the Sooners, Manns posted 46 assists and a career-high 23 digs. Manns added three kills on four attempts along with a service ace and three block assists. The conference leader in assists followed with 34 assists and nine digs against the Jayhawks Saturday. The Topeka, Kan., native had a solo block and four block assists in Iowa State’s 3–0 victory over Kansas.
