The Iowa State hockey team was able to beat Kansas in both games over the weekend. With a 10-1 win on Friday and a 12-2 victory Saturday, the Cyclones improve to 4-0 for the 2009 season.

The Cyclone Hockey team began Friday night much like they did a week ago. Iowa State won a very physical game against Kansas 10-1. The Cyclones scored five goals in the first period with four of them coming in the first ten minutes.

Pete Majkozak and Chris Mackay led the Cyclones with two goals apiece. Both of Majkozak’s goals came less than 30 seconds apart from each other in the first period.

Iowa State’s win is due, in part, to its ability to score on power plays. A total of four goals were scored via the power play and they even added a short-handed goal.

Austin Maginnis saved 10 out of eleven shots by Kansas in two periods of work. Erik Hudson came into the game in the third period and didn’t allow a goal.

The Iowa State Hockey Team completed the sweep of Kansas on Saturday winning 12-2. Iowa State scored three goals in the first period and pulled away in the second with five more goals.

The Cyclones were led by freshman David Kurbatsky as he recorded his third hat trick in four games as a Cyclone. Cort Bulloch and Brian Spring followed with two goals each.

Erik Hudson started the game in net for the Cyclones and went one period saving four out of four shots. Paul Kraus came replaced Hudson in the second period and saved 10 of 11 in two periods of play.

The Cyclones improved to 4-0 for the season and will take on Indiana at home next weekend.
