LETTERS: ‘Reclaim Iowa’ not welcome

I was puzzled to read in the Daily today (Thursday, August 27) that a New Jersey-based group, the “National Organization for Marriage”, has initiated the “Reclaim Iowa Project” to, somehow, encourage us to overturn our Supreme Court’s decision legalizing same-sex marriage.

The National Organization for Marriage “Reclaim Iowa Project” is NOT welcome in our state. Reiterating from a previous communication of mine to the Daily, I want to reemphasize – so that some people in other states who have not gotten the message yet get it at last – that Iowa is a state that cherishes tolerance, plurality and diversity alongside equality, freedom and opportunity for all. The decision of our own State Supreme Court has just re- enforced the values that Iowans consider dear and nonnegotiable.

I suggest that the National Organization for Marriage rename their “Reclaim Iowa Project” to “Reclain New Jersey Project” and take it to where they come from. They may make their own society worse by introducing intolerance there; here in Iowa we know better.
