The ISU men’s track and field team turned out an impressive weekend, walking a way with two regional qualifiers and a slew of top finishes from both meets.

A group of Cyclones made the trek down to Tempe, Ariz. for the Sun Angel Classic. But the big story for the men was freshman Ian Warner, who regionally qualified in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.55 seconds. Along with Warner, the men’s 4×100 meter relay took third place in Tempe with a time of 41.11 seconds.

The other members of the team stayed in Iowa to compete at the Jim Duncan Invitational in Des Moines — a warm up meet for the Drake Relays, which is just two weeks away.

Zac Brouillette entered the weekend on a roll after he broke the indoor weight throw school record along with the school record in the hammer throw last weekend. He continued his standout season by setting a new school record for the hammer throw. His throw marked at 195 feet, or 59 meters — far surpassing the 57 meter mark required for the NCAA Regional meet.

Luke Pinkelman also notched a win in the shot put, while teammate Brouillette followed right behind in second. Pinkelman also followed up his shot put win with a fourth place discus finish — freshman Zackary Richards finished in first place.

The distance runners also had a successful weekend as senior Jory Zunich finished second in the 1500 meter run. Zunich was followed up by Ben Murphy-Baum, who finished sixth and Brek Minarik, who finished seventh.

Other notable performances include Wayne Taylor, who finished 7th in the 400 meter hurdles, Ryan Williams, who finished fourth in the 800 meter run and Landon Momberg, who finished sixth in the high jump.
