Zach Murray, sophomore in mechanical engineering from Ottumwa, was killed Friday in a two-car crash on U.S. Highway 34 near Albia.

According to an accident report from the Iowa State Patrol, Murray was the passenger in a vehicle driven by Delaney Palen, of Ottumwa, traveling westbound on Highway 34. Palen lost control of the vehicle and slid sideways into the eastbound lane. According to the report, after sliding into the other lane, Palen’s vehicle was struck by another car on the passenger side.

Icy weather and poor road conditions may have contributed to the accident, according to the report.

Funeral services have been set for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home, 607 E 2nd St., in Ottumwa.
