After a defeat at the hands of the Hawkeyes, the Cyclones (0-6) head to Iowa City on Monday to take on Iowa again.

Thursday night’s troubles left coach Jay Ronayne expecting to see a lot more from the Cyclones. The team has also had only one day in the gym to re-focus their minds and practice routines.

“I’m actually a little bit nervous about only having one day of practice. [The gymnasts] have to adjust for that,” Ronayne said. “We have to be clearly a lot better. I’m challenging the team to be mentally tougher. I expect a lot more from them and I hope they expect a lot more from themselves.”

After Thursday’s rocky performance, the Cyclones had a lot of work to do and a lot of mistakes to fix.

“One day [of practice] is very awkward — we just need to get our jitters out. We’re amazing in practice and we just need to be able to take what we do in practice in a meet situation,” senior Jasmine Thompson said. “We’ve done that a couple meets, but it’s very up and down right now.”

Thompson had a rough night on Thursday, and said she would spend her practice time trying to straighten out a few mistakes and strengthen routines.

“It’s been a little rough for me and I don’t know why, I can go 9.850 or higher in every event and that should be my job, and it is my job as a co-captain and as a senior on this team. So I’m looking to step up just that one or two tenths and just get rid of the falls and get rid of the extra stuff that is uncharacteristic of me,” Thompson said.

The Cyclones know what to expect tonight thanks to Thursday, but are not necessarily concerned with what the Hawkeyes might bring to tonight’s meet.

“I focus on our team. I know if we do what we’ve been doing in the gym we’ll stand out and we’ll be able to get a win,” junior Jody McKellar said.

The Cyclones hope to finally add a win to their winless record tonight, and are hoping they got all their nerves taken care of Thursday night.

“At practice we’re just going to get in there are work on fixing the things that we had problems with [Thursday] and just rebuilding our confidence. We want to go in there and just have a great meet,” junior Megan Barnes said.
