The city of Ames snow ordinance will go into effect at 11 p.m. Monday, according to a press release.

The National Weather Service in Des Moines issued a winter weather advisory until 3 p.m. Tuesday. A mix of freezing rain and snow, along with winds gusting to 20 to 30 mph, could make for difficult travel and low visibility.

Ice could accumulate up to one-tenth of an inch with snow totals between 1 to 3 inches.

See the below press release for more information on the city’s snow ordinance.

Snow routes are marked by red, white and blue signs, and cars parked on snow routes will be ticketed and towed. All cars should be moved to off-street parking or to streets that are not designated snow routes. It is important to remember the snow ordinance remains in effect until the streets are completely plowed from curb to curb, AND it has stopped snowing.

To assist in the plowing efforts, all Ames residents are asked to remove parked cars from residential streets. However, only those on snow routes are required to move them.
