The battle of the beards is over.

After 30 days of not shaving during the month of November, the guys are ready to throw in the towel.

Zach Dennis, sophomore in construction engineering, and Matt Murphy, sophomore in construction engineering, participated in the challenge of forgoing shaving during November. While some participate in No Shave November to raise money for charity, both were doing it because it would be more convenient to skip shaving.

Although both have grown and kept beards before, but not being able to do anything to it all became a little much.

“I wanted to be able to shape it,” Dennis said.

Growing the beard became a tedious task, without the option of cutting off length. Dennis especially found the long length his beard bothersome because “it was out of control.” Both wanted to trim their beards.

“Towards the end I really wanted to trim it. It’s ridiculously long,” Murphy said.

Despite the long length, growing their beards didn’t annoy the two a great deal.

“It didn’t really bother me,” Dennis said.

When Murphy told his family of his decision not to shave for a month, he said, “They all laughed.”

Dennis didn’t receive such a reaction, however.

“I didn’t really get made fun of,” Dennis said, during the month we went without shaving.
