Ames community runs to help hearts

Everyone knows running is good for the heart, but there are some ways it can be even better.

More than 250 runners participated in the Running with Heart 5K/10K walk/run on Sunday morning. The runners included ISU students, faculty, staff and others in the Ames community.

The race is organized by students as a way to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease — the No. 1 killer of adults in the United States. All proceeds from the event went to the American Heart Association. Last year, the organization donated more than $3,500 to the American Heart Association.
