Local supporters of the 19th Amendment are celebrating the 100th anniversary of what may have been the first march for women’s right to vote on Saturday.

Members of the Boone County Historical Society, the First Unitarian Church, of Des Moines, and other women’s groups from across the state will participate in a re-enactment of the Boone Suffrage Parade of 1908 on Saturday.

According to www.celebratesufrage2008.com, the march of 1908 was arguably one of the first parades to encourage support for the 19th Amendment.

Participants will gather at the Boone High School at 10 a.m. The re-enactment of the Boone Suffrage Parade will begin at Noon, with a reception, exhibits and a play following.
