FEEDBACK: People of Ames should partake in Blue Sky Day

Brandon Behrens & Marybeth Konkowski

Thanks to a large number of hardworking people, this year’s ISU Homecoming is gearing up to be yet another great success. Not only is Homecoming an opportunity for students and fans to partake in Iowa State traditions, but it is a time for the community and the students to strengthen their relationship. There’s no better example of this connection than the Blue Sky Day 5K Run/Walk.

The Blue Sky Day 5K Run/Walk is a chance for the people of Ames to make a difference in their community. The proceeds from the race benefit Lutheran Services in Iowa’s Beloit Residential Treatment Center. The Beloit program provides children and families who have faced tremendous obstacles and tragedy in their lives with the care and support they need. In the past, funds raised by Blue Sky Day have helped purchase clothes, art supplies, doctor visits, birthday gifts, field trips and playground equipment for the children at Beloit. By participating in the Run/Walk, community members help make an impact on the lives of these children.

As one of Homecoming’s most-anticipated community service activities, the Blue Sky Day 5K gives ISU students an opportunity to learn more about Lutheran Services in Iowa and all the work they do in helping our friends and neighbors in Story County. The race is a chance to show the people LSI serves that the community cares. If you would like to register for the Run/Walk go to www.blueskyday.org.

Thank you to everyone who has participated in the past and to the Blue Sky Day major sponsors — Thrivent Financial for Lutherans of Story County, Elbert Chiropractic Clinic, Mary Greeley Medical Center, McCallsburg Lions Club, George White Chevrolet and Jerry Carney and Sons, Inc. It has been a pleasure to put together an event for such a good cause. We hope that this year will have the best turnout yet.
