The ISU Volleyball team took a 2-0 lead against Kansas on Saturday afternoon but wasn’t able to hold on as the Jayhawks came storming back for a 3-2 (21-25, 23-25, 25-20, 25-22, 15-10) victory in Lawrence. The win was the first for the Jayhawks against the Cyclones in their last eight tries.

The Cyclones (10-3, 1-1 Big 12) hit a blistering .357 in the first set, but were never better than .229 in the final four, as Kansas (7-4, 1-1 Big 12) took the final three sets for its first conference victory of the season.

Jen Malcom led the Cyclones both offensively and defensively, as she had a team high 18 kills on a .548 hitting percentage and was a part of eight of the Cyclones’ 13 team blocks. Victoria Henson and Rachel Hockaday added 15 and 13 kills, respectively.

Iowa State out-blocked the Jayhawks 13 to 7, but still couldn’t overcome the Kansas offensive attack, which out-hit the Cyclones .264 to .235. Sophomore libero Ashley Mass notched her 39th consecutive match with 10 digs or more.

The Cyclones’ next match will come Wednesday night, when they hit the road to play against the No. 3 Texas Longhorns (6-1) in Austin.
