WATERLOO – Two women dropped three children from the upstairs of a burning home in Waterloo, then jumped to safety.

The fire was reported around 9 a.m. Monday. No injuries were reported, but the home was heavily damaged.

The women, Latoya Donald and Laverne Cosby, and five children live at the home.

Donald says she was upstairs sleeping with her three children when the fire started.

Cosby’s nephew, 7-year-old Davon Matlock, smelled smoke and woke up his aunt.

Cosby got Davon and his 5-year-old sister out of the house. She then went upstairs and alerted Donald and her children. As the house filled with smoke, they dropped the children out the window and then jumped.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
