Statistics department moves to Wilson Hall

Iowa State University’s building renovation schedule has its sights set on a new project.

Because of its age, Snedecor Hall is going to be getting the next architectural facelift on campus, which puts the statistics department in need of a new location.

“The building was just old – everything needed to be fixed,” said Ken Koehler, university professor of statistics and chair of the statistics department. “We had air conditioning units you couldn’t even get parts for anymore.”

The renovation process for Snedecor started immediately after finals ended last semester, which displaced the statistics department to the first three floors of Wilson Hall.

Edith Landin, administrative specialist for the department, said that the department will remain in Wilson Hall until spring 2009.

To keep the inconvenience for the faculty down, other academic departments have offered to give the staff offices around the campus.

“It allows us to be on campus and talk to the students,” Koehler said. “It’s better than going back and forth. We appreciate the other departments giving their extra offices to us.”
