Dan McCarney could be on the move.

The former Cyclones’ head coach wouldn’t not confirm or deny rumors that he was accepting a position with the Florida Gators.

“Nothing has been finalized yet,” said McCarney, when reached by his phone Friday afternoon.

McCarney, who spent last season working as a defensive line coach with South Florida, spent over a decade with the Cyclones, leading his team to bowl victories in 2000 and 2004.

On Friday, South Florida officials wouldn’t confirm McCarney had left the team but left open the possibility.

“We don’t have any announcement,” said Chris Freet, assistant athletic director and sports information director at South Florida. “Any announcements made today will come from Florida.”

A message was left with the Florida athletic department, which was unavailable for comment Friday afternoon.

McCarney, who spent 12 seasons with Iowa State, led the Cyclones to a school record 56 victories.
