The Husker Invitational was an up-and-down experience for the ISU track teams on Friday and Saturday. There were several top finishers and a number of new personal records, but the Cylcones came home without an individual victory.

“It was another chance to be on the track and experience the facility,” said head coach Corey Ihmels in a press release. “It was an up-and-down meet – we will keep working hard and competing strong. This meet was just another step in the process for preparing for the Big 12 Championship and the rest of the season.”

Although the Cyclones didn’t come back with a first place finish, they have a lot of positives to build on and continue to work on heading into the Big 12 Championships.

Lisa Koll made an appearance in the mile run. Koll, usually a longer distance runner, came in third in the highly competitive field. Her time of 4 minutes, 48.08 seconds narrowly missed the provisional qualifying time for the NCAA Championships. In the men’s mile, Hillary Bor also came in third with a time of 4:14.43.

Derron Montgomery, a wide receiver on the ISU football team, made an impression on the Husker Invite crowd as he clocked a personal best in the 400-meter run with a time of 48.52 seconds. Montgomery ran three 400 -meter runs that were under the 49-second mark at the meet.

The women’s 4×400-meter relay team, composed of Lashawn Wright, Brittany Machacek, Ines Fischer and Kersten Thorgaard ran to a second-place finish coming in just behind Central Florida. The team clocked a time of 3 minutes, 57.67 seconds in the event.

The Cyclones return to Lincoln next weekend for the Adidas Invitational at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
