In the company of a constant rain, the ISU soccer team dropped its third straight game to nonconference foe Western Illinois.

The Cyclones made a season-high 19 shots to WIU’s eight, but they were still shut out 2-0 in the game.

WIU junior midfielder Ashley Hoch struck first when she scored in the 38th minute of the game. The rain-slicked ball slipped out of Cyclone’s goalie Ann Gleason’s hands and into the net.

WIU’s second goal was netted in the 51st minute, from a header off a free kick. Junior forward Katelyn Wisner scored the goal.

Tempers flared as 19 fouls, nine by Iowa State and 10 by WIU, were amassed throughout the game.

The loss brings the Cyclones to 6-4-3, while WIU improved to 11-1-1.

The Cyclones return to Big 12 play Friday night, when they take on the Texas A&M Aggies. The game is at 7 p.m. at the ISU Soccer Complex.
