CEDAR RAPIDS – “The Final Season,” the movie inspired by the 1991 Norway, Iowa, baseball team, will premiere in Iowa on Oct. 7 in Cedar Rapids, one of the film’s producers said.

It will then open in 1,000 theaters nationwide five days later, said Tony Wilson, the Dallas Center man who has worked on the movie for 15 years.

Wilson said details of the Cedar Rapids premiere are still being finalized.

The movie is based on the baseball team that won its 20th state title in the final year before the school merged with a bigger district.

The film’s stars include Sean Astin, Powers Boothe and Tom Arnold.

Most of the movie was filmed near Cedar Rapids and Norway .

Wilson said ads for the movie may appear as early as next week, and will run during the Major League Baseball playoffs.
