Street temporarily closed

Wallace Road was closed for approximately 20 minutes after heavy rainfall. The rain caused the street to flood temporally between Osborn Drive and Pammel Drive.

Sgt. Carrie Jacobs of Iowa State Police said she had been following a car traveling down Wallace and noticed the vehicle had to slow down considerably when it reached the deep water.

“This is very normal, this is one of the first places we check,” she said.

Jacobs said the road was blocked off to prevent car problems. She said it was to prevent cars from stalling.

There are three other areas that the police usually check for flooding, Jacobs said. They include Lot 100 (the Lied Recreation/Athletic Center parking lot), north of Lake LaVerne and Bissell Road and Osborn Drive.

Jacobs said the road is fairly busy, especially during the school year. ISU police had to divert a number of cars away from the flooded road.
