In The Zone, a Christian program that was scheduled to come to Hilton Coliseum on June 23, has been canceled.

Mark North, executive director of the Iowa State Center, said the event was canceled because the organization underestimated the amount of time to plan for an event of its size.

North said the date had been moving around for a while and June 23 was decided on. However, it turned out it would not work out.

“It was just too soon to put together the quality event they were looking for,” North said.

North said he was sorry the event was canceled, and hoped something could be worked out to have an In the Zone event in 2008.

Rick Hoganson, of Hoganson Media Relations, wrote in a statement that “In The Zone underestimated the time needed to prepare and execute a plan for an event of this magnitude. In an effort to use the resources God has given In The Zone in the most efficient manner possible, the event is stepping back and implementing at a long-range plan for 2008.”

Those who already bought tickets can refund them beginning at 10 a.m. Friday at the point of purchase.

Among the guests that were supposed to be in the event included ISU football coach Gene Chizik. Chizik could not be reached for comment.

According to In The Zone’s Web site, In the Zone is a “cutting-edge event for Christian men.” The program discusses issues such as “life, work, leadership, relationships, faith and understanding women.”
