Time discrepancies caues confusion in Bolanos case

The time sequence of the night of Abel Bolanos’ death has officials questioning when he left the party Saturday morning before he went missing.

“People are in error about what time he left the Hyland address,” said Gene Deisinger, commander for the ISU police department.

It was first believed that Bolanos’ left the party at 208 S. Hyland Ave. around 4 a.m. Friends from the party initially told officials that Bolanos’ left the apartment between 4 and 4:30 a.m.

However, Bolanos’ access card was attempted on the unoccupied Wilson Hall twice before 4 a.m.

The two attempts to access Wilson Hall occurred at 3:22:57 a.m. and 3:23:12 a.m. Saturday morning.

“[Bolanos] had access to Wallace, but not Wilson,” said Mona Wilson, clerk in the facilities planning and management department. “He used it on Wilson Hall those two times.”

A card of a different student was also used on Wilson Hall shortly after Bolanos tried.

This attempt was made at 3:26:34 a.m. Saturday.

Police are currently investigating the time discrepancies and have ruled out any indication of Daylight Savings Time confusions.

“Pretty confident that the time stamp is 3:23 that that is the correct time,” Deisinger said.
