Takeaways: Iowa State keeps improving with a 4-1 weekend record

After a Sunday split — a 4-3 loss against the College of Charleston and 2-1 win against Long Beach State — the Iowa State Cyclones improved to 17-10 overall for the season and finished 4-1 in the Eason Invitational. 

Among the Big 12 teams, the Cyclones jumped to fifth place in overall record, trailing behind Oklahoma State. 

Sami Williams’ offensive dominance

Junior shortstop Sami Williams continues to produce with offensively as her efforts to support the team has brought her a continuous hitting streak throughout the Easton Invitational. 

During today’s game against the College of Charleston, Williams had a single-game season high of three hits and two doubles. 

Williams leads the team in batting average with a .413.

Cyclones show improvement

With regular season conference games rapidly approaching, Iowa State needed to gain the confidence that it ultimately got from this invitational. Coming out of a heavily offensive and defensive tournament, the Cyclones can say safely say that they are improving. 

The Iowa State Cyclones are coming out of the Easton Invitational with a batting average of .254 which is a tremendous improvement. 

What’s Next?

Iowa State will travel down to Austin, Texas, where the Cyclones will play their first Big 12 regular season game against the University of Texas on March 22.
