Cyclones get chance to break daunting trend

Iowa State hasn’t had much success against teams ranked in the top 10.

In Dan McCarney’s 12 seasons in Ames, the Cyclones have played 17 games against top 10 teams, winning just one of those.

That win came last season when Iowa State beat then-No. 8 Iowa, 23-3.

The Cyclones get another chance to knock off a highly ranked team when they face No. 7 Texas on Saturday.

Iowa State has played Texas once before when the Longhorns were in the top 10, losing 21-10 in 2002. Texas was ranked No. 7 that day as well.

Iowa State is 0-3 under McCarney against teams with a No. 7 ranking.
