Three ISU football players were named to the SBC all-Big 12 first team, the Big 12 conference announced Tuesday.

Wide receiver Todd Blythe, defensive lineman Nick Leaders and defensive back LaMarcus Hicks were all named to the first team.

Players are selected by the Big 12’s coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own athletes.

Texas quarterback Vince Young was named the conference’s offensive Player of the Year and his coach, Mack Brown, was named Coach of the Year. Kansas linebacker Nick Reid was named the Big 12’s defensive Player of the Year and Colorado kicker Mason Crosby was special teams Player of the Year.

Blythe is averaging 19.5 yards per catch – second nationally – and set the school record for career touchdown receptions with 16. He has 46 receptions for 895 yards this season as a sophomore.

Leaders leads the Cyclones with 11 tackles for loss this season. He has started on the defensive line for all four of his seasons. He has 259 tackles and 14.5 sacks during his career at Iowa State.

Hicks was named the Big 12 defensive Player of the Week after Iowa State’s 23-3 victory over Iowa, a game in which he returned an interception for a touchdown and forced a fumble.

On the season he picked off four passes and recorded 49 tackles.

Defensive players Brent Curvey, Tim Dobbins and Steve Paris were named to the all-Big 12 second team.

Defensive end Jason Berryman, offensive linemen Aaron Brant and Scott Stephenson, fullback Ryan Kock, quarterback Bret Meyer, safety Nik Moser and punter Troy Blankenship all received honorable mentions.
