The ISU women’s soccer team answered the call Friday.

Down early, the Cyclones (5-2-1) scored two second-half goals for their first comeback win of the season, beating Creighton 2-1 in the Drake Bulldog Bash, equaling the second-best start in school history.

Renee de St. Aubin and Amy Flores each scored in Iowa State’s fourth consecutive win. St. Aubin has scored in each of those victories, and found the net just 45 seconds into the second half to tie the game.

Flores headed in the game winner in the 64th minute off a cross from Erin Witte.

“We came out with a lot of fire in the second half,” said coach Rebecca Hornbacher. “We had a few good opportunities, but it was a great team effort and we really had to show a lot of character in the second half to get this win.”

The Cyclones prevailed despite being out-shot 10-7 by the Bluejays (3-2-2).

Creighton got the early lead on a free kick, as Sydney Reeves’ shot bounced off the crossbar and into the goal 33 minutes into the game.

St. Aubin hit her team-leading fourth goal off an assist from Brittanie Waddell. Flores’s score was the fifth game-winner her career.

A recap of Sunday’s game will appear in Tuesday’s Daily.
