Iowa State has solid day one at National Invitational

Iowa State sits tied for sixth place after the first two rounds of the National Invitational Tournament in Tucson, Arizona.

Arizona State is in first place after rounds one and two.

Round one for the Cyclones ended with the team in sixth place on the leaderboard with a 282 score. Round two saw the Cyclones stay in sixth place after posting a 279.

Iowa State shot 43 birdies and 27 bogies in total for the first two rounds. 

Tripp Kinney shot 1 under par (71) in the first round and then posted an even better second round score by carding a 4 under (68) round.

Kinney finds himself tied for 13th on the individual standings.

Kinney jumped up 11 spots on the individual leaderboard based on his second round performance.

Lachlan Barker also gave the Cyclones solid scores in the opening rounds of the National Invitational after shooting 4 under (68) and even (72) in the first two rounds. 

Barker ended the opening rounds tied for 16th place on the individual leaderboard.

The rest of the scores for the Cyclones are as follows:

  • Frank Lindwall is T-32nd with scores of 74 and 68 in the opening rounds.
  • Ricky Costello is T-21st after carding scores of 69 and 72 in the opening rounds.
  • Sam Vincent sits T-55th after scores of 75 and 71 in the opening rounds.
