Linebacker Brown pulls groin in game

ISU linebacker Brandon Brown, who trails Matt Word by one tackle for the team lead, pulled his groin in the first half of Iowa State’s 58-6 win over Tennessee Tech.

Brown led the Cyclones in unassisted tackles in the first two games with nine and seven.

“We don’t think it’s serious, so hopefully he’ll get back to practice and be ready to go this week,” ISU head coach Dan McCarney said. “Any time you stretch a groin like that, it is going to be sore. I definitely think he will be ready this week.”

Back-to-back scores biggest since 1986

Iowa State recorded 40 or more points in back-to-back games for the first time since 1996.

The Cyclones’ 103 points in two games is the most since Iowa State scored 100 points in back-to-back games against Indiana State and Wichita State in 1986. The Indiana State game, which Iowa State won 64-9, was the last time the Cyclones scored more points than they did against Tennessee Tech. The 58-point outburst is the most scored since the Cyclones scored 57 against UNLV in 1995.

The offensive output also allowed three ISU quarterbacks a chance to get into the game. Seneca Wallace, Chris Love and Dustin Ochs all had opportunities to lead the offense.

In addition, the offense has racked up 400 or more yards in six of the last seven games.

Golden Eagles facts

Saturday’s meeting was the first on the football field between the two schools. Iowa State and Tennessee Tech previously met on the basketball court two years ago. The Golden Eagles led at half by 14 points before Jamaal Tinsley took over to secure a 89-74 Cyclone victory.

Good nights overall for Cyclone team

Iowa State is now 9-4 in night games at Jack Trice Stadium, including wins in the last five of six contests. They are 10-4 overall since the beginning of the 1999 season.
