More night games highlight season schedule

Who knew Cyclones were nocturnal?

Two more home games, Sept. 7 against Tennessee Tech and Sept. 21 versus Troy State, will be held in the evening. Both contests are slated for a 6 p.m. kickoff.

The ISU football schedule now features four night games with the kickoff times for the final seven games yet to be determined.

Start times have not been set for the last three home games, against Texas Tech, Missouri and Connecticut.

Quarterback and captain Seneca Wallace, said the team likes the different atmosphere that night games bring.

“A lot of people get a lot more jacked up for night games,” Wallace said. “It’s fun. The whole atmosphere – playing in a night game – it’s totally different.”

Two of the night games, against Florida State and Iowa, have already been selected for television.

The lighting improvement project, slated for completion in early August, gives the ISU athletic department the choice to hold games in the evening, Athletic Director Bruce Van De Velde said.

“We’re now able to schedule night games and not have to bring in lights,” Van De Velde said. “It’s a good investment for Iowa State.”

Van De Velde said the trend has been night games equaling better attendance as well.

There have been 12 previous night games held at Jack Trice Stadium.

The Cyclones hold an 8-4 record in those games.

There were two home night games last season, including the Sept. 8 season-opener against Northern Iowa. ISU defeated the Panthers 45-0.

NEBRASKA GAME ON TV

The ISU athletic department has announced that the Sept. 28 home game against Nebraska will be aired by ABC.
