The Board of Regents met for an hour Wednesday in the Sun Room of the Memorial Union.

The board was introduced to a new face at Iowa State and was presented the schematic plan for the University of Iowa’s new Art and Art History Building.

President Gregory Geoffroy introduced the new dean of the College of Agriculture, Catherine Woteki, by highlighting several of her previous positions.

Woteki said she is excited about the College of Agriculture.

“I am enthusiastic,” she said. “I am reminded daily how important agriculture is to the state.”

Regent David Fisher, West Des Moines, said the Regents are looking forward to working with Woteki and Iowa State’s agriculture college as the face of agricultural changes.

“Agriculture as we know it is going to change in the next 10 years,” Fisher said.

“You have your work cut out for you. We’re glad you’re here,” he said.

Fisher encouraged Woteki and the College of Agriculture to take the lead in finding solutions for the changing face of the industry.

Woteki said the efforts are made through research and outreach by the college.

“The college can do a lot to provide solutions,” she said. “We look forward to that challenge. There are a lot of talented faculty and students within the college.”

Following the architectural presentations of the University of Iowa’s building plan, the Regents demonstrated concern for efficiency and student safety, asking questions relating to parking, disability access to the building and compliance with Iowa’s energy code. The board approved the design and the University of Iowa will be allowed to proceed.
