The Iowa State Daily Publication Board decided Tuesday who will lead the Daily during the summer and the 2002-2003 academic year.

Cavan Reagan, junior in journalism and mass communication, was chosen as next year’s editor in chief. Erin Randolph, junior in journalism and mass communication, was chosen to be the summer editor in chief.

Reagan, who is a Daily news editor and columnist, is planning to reorganize parts of the editorial staff to increase the efficiency of the newsroom.

“I will reorganize the newsroom in terms of its news desk and copy desk by creating a second senior-level editor position at the news desk, changing the managing editor position,” he said.

Reagan said he plans to improve the learning environment for new reporters at the Daily.

“I also want to work with all new employees of the Daily by organizing reporter workshops and making the Daily a more organized place for new reporters,” he said.

Reagan has held several positions at the Daily including reporter, copy editor, research assistant, editorial board member and student life editor.

“I love it here and I wanted to jump at the opportunity to work with aspects of the Daily,” he said.

Randolph, who is the Daily student life editor, said she plans to work closely with Reagan for a smooth transition from summer to fall.

“I want to improve internal communication lines within the Daily between the advertising and editorial departments,” she said.

Randolph, whose Daily experience includes reporter for news and arts and entertainment sections and A&E senior reporter, said she felt honored to be chosen as summer editor in chief.

“From working at the Daily I’ve seen things I think could have been improved, and I’m glad to have this opportunity,” she said.
