IRHA provides money for Varieties skit

The Inter-Residence Hall Association passed a bill to provide $500 to Barker House of Lyon Hall for their production of a Varieties skit.

Barker House is the only group representing the residence halls in Varieties, an annual competition of skits and vignettes.

“It’s good the residence halls are getting involved in traditionally greek event,” IRHA Paul Duncan said at Thursday night’s meeting.

Members also discussed campus vandalism.

IRHA Adviser John Shertzer said the amount of vandalism on campus has increased. “We are trying to be reactive but we have no answers,” he said.

Shertzer asked the IRHA for help with decreasing campus vandalism.

Government of the Student Body representatives attended the meeting and spoke to IRHA members about the new parking proposal, which includes adding about 600 parking spots as well as a multi-level parking garage somewhere on campus. This would result in a parking permit cost increase for students, faculty and staff. UDA President Jeff Greiner requested more time to discuss the matter with his constituencies.

David Boike, IRHA vice president, said the room-rate increase will be discussed later in the semester.

“The Department of Residence comes up with how much the room-rate increase will be, and IRHA reviews it and approves it before it can happen,” Boike said.

The next IRHA meeting will be at 7 p.m. in the Chessman Lounge in Helser.
