Iowa State opens the 2001 football season Saturday against the University of Northern Iowa.

The gates at Jack Trice Stadium will open at 5 p.m. and the Cyclones and Panthers will kick off at 6:30 p.m.

CyRide will offer shuttles from Friley Hall and Towers Residence Association for 25 cents to the front of Jacobson Athletic Building beginning at 5 p.m. The shuttle will run every 10 minutes, said Barb Neal, assistant operations supervisor for CyRide.

After the game, buses will be in front of Jacobson Athletic Building with the last bus leaving 15 minutes after the end of the game.

Fans should be aware that alcoholic beverages are prohibited inside the stadium.

“We call it our bottle policy – no bottles of any kind can be brought into the stadium,” said Frank Randall, assistant athletic director and events manager. “[This means] no solid fruits, no thermoses and no stadium cushions.”

Large bags may be searched by event staff at the gates, he said.

Underage possession or consumption of alcohol is “strictly enforced,” said Jerry Stewart, interim director for the Department of Public Safety.

Hard liquor is not allowed anywhere in the stadium area, and kegs only are allowed in the designated tent areas that are controlled by the athletic department, he said.

DPS will provide the usual presence in terms of the office and support staff, Stewart said.

He said the Ames Police Department, Story County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol will assist DPS.

Getting to and from the stadium will be a challenge with construction in and around Ames.

“Those driving to the stadium should be aware of several road construction areas, which will divert or delay traffic,” Stewart said.

East-bound Lincoln Way traffic from Elwood Drive to Grand Avenue will be significantly impacted.

Post-game north-bound Elwood Drive traffic will not be able to turn right onto Lincoln Way, and no left turns will be allowed from Lincoln Way to Grand Avenue, Stewart said.

In addition, motorists traveling from the west should be aware of the construction near South Dakota Avenue and Mortensen Road, he said.

Construction will also affect parking near the stadium.

Parking will not be allowed in lot S-1 due to Reiman Garden construction.

Parking rates are the same as last year, $5 for cars, $10 for recreational vehicles and $15 for buses.
