The ISU women’s basketball and wrestling squads officially ended their seasons with the annual team award banquets.

The Cyclone women’s basketball banquet was held Sunday in Hilton Coliseum. Three team awards were handed out by ISU head coach Bill Fennelly along with the annual senior awards.

The senior awards went to Erica Haugen, Megan Taylor, Sarah Robson and Gintar‚ Cipinyt‚.

Haugen led the team in steals with 47 on the year. She ranks eighth on the all-time ISU steals list with 144.

Taylor added the Free Throw Award to her collection as she led the team in free-throw percentage. The Cyclone sharp-shooter sank 59 of her 68 attempts from the charity stripe, good for 86.8 percent.

Junior All-American Angie Welle grabbed the Rebounding Award. Welle averaged double-digits in rebounds with 10 and capped that with a scoring average over 18.

Welle had a career-high 20 rebounds Jan. 17 in a game against the Missouri Tigers. She recorded 17 double-doubles on the season.

The Cyclone Pride Award was presented to junior Tracy Gahan. The award is given to the player who best represents ISU women’s basketball on and off the court.

On the court Gahan averaged over 12 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game in 2000-2001.

The ISU wrestling squad had its banquet Monday in the Scheman Building.

To no surprise, junior Cael Sanderson was named Iowa State’s Outstanding Wrestler. This marks the third year that Sanderson has been tabbed as Iowa State’s best.

Sanderson won his third- straight national title at 184 pounds and was also the NCAA Most Outstanding Wrestler. He owns a gaudy 119-0 record and snapped former Cyclone Dan Gable’s record for most victories without a loss earlier in the year.

Sanderson was also given the award for most falls, as he recorded 18 pins this year. Of his 119 career victories, 39 have come via a pin.

The Sanderson family was well-represented in the award category as Cael’s brother Cole was honored with the Dr. Wise Burroughs Leadership Award. The senior had his best season as a Cyclone, finishing 32-8 on the year.

Zach Thompson was named Iowa State’s Outstanding Senior. The junior award went to Joe Heskett and Billy Maldonado. Zach Roberson was the Outstanding Freshman for Iowa State.
