Cyclone women face solid Tiger team

The ISU women’s basketball team narrowly escaped with a win when Missouri came to town on Jan. 17. Now, the Tigers are looking for revenge.The No. 7 Cyclones must travel to Columbia tonight to take on the 13-5 (4-3 Big 12) Tigers.During the 68-67 ISU victory earlier this month, the Cyclones were never able to pull away from Missouri. Following a technical foul on the Tiger’s Pep Williams, the Cyclones were on their way to a 17-0 run. But Missouri stormed back and had the lead late in the game.A basket by Tracy Gahan off of Lindsey Wilson’s assist gave the Cyclones a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. The Tigers’ Amanda Lassiter missed a three-pointer with less than 30 seconds to go, and Iowa State was able to hang on for the one-point win.Angie Welle had an incredible game, tallying 18 points and an incredible 20 boards.Wilson led the way for Iowa State with 21 points. She has been on a tear the past four games, averaging more than 19 points as the Cyclones have gone 3-1 during the span. Wilson has also handed out an average of 8.8 assists for that time.Welle is leading the way for the Cyclones so far this year with 18.1 points per contest and 10.4 boards. ISU senior Megan Taylor has also been a hefty contributor in the last two games as she has scored more than 20 points in both contests. She is averaging 13.8 on the year and brings down 5.9 rebounds per game.Four ISU starters average double-figures in points. The last time the Cyclones traveled south to face the Tigers, they came home with a 79-67 win as they snapped a nine-game winning streak for the Tigers. The Cyclones have won the last two games at the Hearnes Center, and they have been victorious in past seven Cyclone-Tiger games. However, the state of Missouri has not been kind to the Cyclones throughout the series history. Missouri holds a commanding 18-3 advantage in Columbia and lead the overall series 39-12.
