ISU swim team wins in Florida

The Iowa State Women’s Swimming and Diving team topped off their winter training trip by capturing the 65th College Coaches Forum in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.The Cyclone team totaled 117 points which edged out second place Miami University’s 111 points.”I was pretty impressed by our team’s performance,” said junior standout Becca Meyer. “We expected Hawaii and Miami to be more competitive in the relays.”The ‘Clones were led by super frosh Petra Plaminkova and Meyer. Both notched second place finishes. “We knew how good Petra was, but she has succeed expectations,” said Head Coach Duane Sorenson. “Becca has been a very pleasant surprise with her consistency in both the 50 and 100 freestyle.”Plaminkova had a runner-up time of 2:15.33 in the 200 long-meter freestyle while Meyer scored silver with a :28.08 in the 50 long-meter freestyle.Other swimmers contributing to the title were senior Dara Rose, who finished fourth place in the 50 long-meter freestyle (:28.47), and freshman Shaylyn Green’s, whose 2:18.13 mark in the 200 long-meter freestyle placed her seventh.To kickoff the spring semester, the Cyclones will host the Nebraska Cornhuskers this Saturday. Events will start at 1 p.m. in the Beyer Hall pool. “Nebraska has always been strong, but we’ve improved this season,” Sorenson said. “The meet should be very competitive.”
