The Cyclones turned the ball over 22 times, but they didn’t need it as they out-matched and over-powered a smaller Texas Pan-American team.

Iowa State, led by Angie Welle, cruised to a 91-59 victory.

“You’re disappointed you turn the ball over,” ISU head coach Bill Fennelly said. “I think there is a combination of you’re trying too hard to make plays that aren’t there.”

Welle scored a game-high 20 points and pulled 11 rebounds for her second straight double-double.

“It’s like me trying to guard someone who is 6-8,” Welle said. “There’s not a lot they can do.”

Welle dominated the post as the ISU guards fed her the ball, helping Welle go eight of 10 from the floor.

Erica Junod scored 15 points and grabbed seven boards. Lindsey Wilson and Junod combined seven assists.

Wilson shot a career-best four of four from the field as she scored 14 points in only 16 minutes of play.

“Obviously, we played [Junod] at the point a lot more tonight,” Fennelly said. “Lindsey’s shoulder and her foot have been hurting her so we wanted to rest her.”

Every Cyclone saw action in the game. Sophomore Holly Bordewyk made the most of the opportunity by scoring a career-best nine points.

Fan-favorite Sarah Robson scored her first basket of the year with a three-pointer in the second half.

While the Cyclones played somewhat sloppy, they made up for it with splendid shooting. The Cyclones nailed 54 percent of their shots, led by Welle and Wilson. As a team, Iowa State shot 32 of 59 from the floor.

“It’s hard to beat a team that shoots over 50 percent from the floor,” said Texas Pan-Am head coach Karin Nicholls.

The Cyclones scored most of their points in the paint as they dominated the smaller Lady Broncs. The Cyclones added 16 fast-break points for the lop-sided win.

The Cyclones may have suffered from a lack of emotion after Wednesday night’s win against Drake. Iowa State beat the in-state rival by 30, 88-58.

“With Drake, it’s such a huge rival,” Welle said. “It just happens. I think today we came out a little flat. We turned the ball over and just were a little careless.”

The Cyclones will finish a brutal five-games-in-11-days run Saturday versus Liberty.

The Cyclones are 4-0 during the stretch and insist that fatigue is not playing a factor in the their play.

“I think [Fennelly] did a good job of getting everybody enough rest yesterday and today, so that wasn’t a factor at all,” Welle said.

The No. 7 Cyclones tip-off with the Liberty Flames at 4 p.m. tomorrow.
