The ISU volleyball team showed its competitive spirit on Saturday but fell in straight games, 3-15, 12-15 and 3-15 to No. 24 ranked Texas A&M.

Iowa State came out slow in game one, dropping the game 3-15 but battled back in game two. The Cyclones held a one-point lead, 12-11, before the Aggies battled to take the victory in the game, 12-15. Senior Stacy Nicks stepped up for the Cyclones in game two recording six of her nine kills in the stanza.

“I think in game two the team just kind of relaxed and played more like they do in practice,” ISU head volleyball coach Linda Grensing said in a press release. “Our goals tonight were to come out focused, be aggressive and try to play with the emotions and enthusiasm that we show in practice. They were able to do that in game two, and it really showed on the score board. We just need to be able to sustain that level of play across a whole match, and I think we will be a pretty good team.”

Despite Iowa State’s impressive play in the second stanza, Texas A&M dominated the third game taking the win, 3-15.

Sophomore outside hitter Sarah Rollman paced the offense, recording nine kills in the match and also had an impressive game two, totaling four kills for a .571 hitting percentage.

Rollman paced the Cyclone defense with a team leading 11 digs.

Along with her team-leading nine kills, Nicks recorded five block assists and is currently tied for fifth on ISU all-time career block assists at 256 with Kari Mitchell. The middle blocker hit .474 from the floor, committing no errors in 19 attacks. The .474 hitting percentage was her best since hitting .489 vs Drake Oct. 14.

The loss dropped ISU to 2-24 overall and 0-17 in Big 12 action. The win improves the Aggies’ record to 16-7 and moves their conference mark to 11-5.

Next action for the Cyclones will be Wednesday when they travel to Lincoln, Neb. to take on the No. 1 ranked Cornhuskers. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Nebraska Coliseum.
