Letter to the editor: Palestinians need to accept Israel

Nathoan Hagberg

This letter is in response to Greg Jerrett’s column concerning the current happenings in the Middle East. While I commend your interest and think your assertions concerning animosity on both sides of the conflict are valid, I must take issue with some of your points.

You infer that the Jews are comparable to Nazis if not worse. Comparing Jews to Nazis is extremely poor taste and was a critical lapse in judgement. Poison Ink was as well.

I would refer you to page 6A of the Oct. 13 to 15 of USA Today. In two of the articles, it states Israeli radio broadcast warnings three hours before the retaliation. Initial reports indicated there were two dozen wounded, but none killed. This is hardly the act of a nation worse than Nazis Mr. Jerrett.

It’s no secret these two nationalities dislike each other. Palestinians want the land of Israel. The Israelis know this, and so does the rest of the world.

The presence of Israel will forever cause hostility with the people of Palestine and the rest of that area of the world.

Having said that, if you were to look at the map you would know that Israel is surrounded by Muslim nations, none of which are sympathetic to the Jewish nation. On the contrary, they have a genuine hate for Israelis and the Jewish nation.

I wonder, Mr. Jerrett, if put in the same geographic region would you not be on the defensive and constantly wondering where the attack is going to come from next.

This creates enormous tension that will not be resolved until Palestinians accept the fact that the land is the Jews. In 1948, they were given the land, they were attacked in the Six Day War, they defended their home, and they won.
