Letter to the editor: Gay compound in bad taste

Chai Kow Siong

I would like to commend the LGBTAA for its activities during National Coming Out Days. I believe its efforts will go a long way in promoting tolerance and understanding for gay people within the ISU community.

However, their public parade of gay people outside of Parks Library on Wednesday at noon was nothing short of sheer bad taste.

That was an extremely negative portrayal of gay people. Why did the LGBTAA parade them within the confines of a fenced compound? Was that to imply that gay people are like animals and thus, deserve to be treated as such?

My guess is they want greater visibility of gay people at Iowa State. However, I am sure there are better ways to achieve that goal.

Gay people have always been repressed and even treated as sub-humans in many countries. Do yourselves a favor by not behaving like one.
