Letters to the editor: Not all of UISG are back-stabbing traitors, just some

Jeneane O'Toole

I am writing in response to the Iowa State Daily’s editorial entitled “UISG back-stabbing traitors” about the University of Iowa Student Government’s support of the 9.9 percent tuition increase. At our meeting about the tuition increase there was much debate about whether or not to support it. I for one was opposed to it from the start. I voted against supporting the increase. I am also confused about the turn around of support. When picking up my legislation packet and seeing that we were going to vote on whether to support the tuition hike or not, it was a shock. I was surprised that it passed considering there were so many people opposed to it. I cannot afford this increase. I am a single mother. If this trend continues I may not be able to get the education I want. I am in full support of informing the Regent’s to not have such a huge increase. I am also in support of all three Regent Universities having a task force to help combine like programs and help stop wasteful spending. This is my education, and I want to be able to make a decent living when I graduate. I don’t want to repay student loans until I die!! Jeneane O’Toole
