Forums allow students to voice opinions

As ISU administrators continue to search for a new university president, forums are being held to help the process along. The first two forums begin today from noon to 1 p.m. in the Pioneer Room and from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Gallery of the Memorial Union. The forums were created as an opportunity to discuss the evaluation criteria for the new president. Ideas and suggestions presented during the forums will be considered by the presidential search subcommittee. Benjamin Allen, chair of the Presidential Search and Screen Advisory Committee, said he is looking forward to the meetings. “I’m there to listen and learn and hear what the people have to say about the selection criteria,” said Allen, dean of the College of Business. While the forums were originally created as an opportunity for ISU faculty and staff to give their input into the search process and criteria, they are also an opportunity for students to present their ideas. “This is a very important stage of the process, and it’s also one of the stages open to the public,” Allen said. “I would encourage the students to take advantage of this opportunity.” Director of University Relations John McCarroll also said he thinks student opinions on the selection criteria would be appreciated. “I think students would be welcome to attend,” he said. In addition to the two forums today, another will also be held from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, in the Pioneer Room of the Memorial Union. “My guess is that there will be a substantial number. We hope for a nice turnout,” Allen said.
